Until Dawn 2 Was Reportedly Planned, What Happened?

The Quarry started off as Until Dawn 2, according to a former employee

An interesting report has surfaced claiming that Supermassive Games had initially planned a sequel to Until Dawn before parting ways with Sony. According to Time Extension, several former Supermassive employees have confirmed that Until Dawn 2 was in the works, with one employee even suggesting that The Quarry was originally conceived as a prototype of this sequel.

There are conflicting views on what led to the end of Sony’s working relationship with Supermassive. One perspective is that Supermassive wanted to seek out other publishers for its pitch for what eventually became The Quarry, leading to the end of its collaboration with Sony. Initially, Google acquired the title but later dropped it, before it was eventually picked up by 2K.

Another perspective is that Sony terminated its partnership with Supermassive because the studio decided to release The Dark Pictures on multiple platforms. As a result, Sony, who owns the Until Dawn IP, decided to hand over the license to an unidentified entity.

With this information in mind, it seems unlikely that we will see a sequel to Until Dawn from Supermassive Games.
