Bungie Investigating Bringing Halo’s Big Team Battle PvP Mode to Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Could Introduce a Big Team Battle Mode Inspired by Halo

Bungie is exploring the idea of bringing a large-scale PvP mode similar to Halo’s Big Team Battle to Destiny 2. However, technical challenges are presenting obstacles to introducing a 16-player mode in the popular FPS MMO.

During a recent appearance on the Firing Range Podcast, former host and current Destiny 2 weapons designer Mercules discussed the potential addition of Big Team Battle. He mentioned that Bungie is actively investigating the possibility but highlighted some technical issues that need to be addressed for a smooth implementation.

According to Mercules, loading that many players into a single activity poses challenges that need to be overcome to ensure both fun and stability. This emphasis on stability is crucial for delivering an enjoyable gaming experience.

The Big Team Battle mode, which originated in Halo 3 multiplayer, has been a staple feature in subsequent Halo titles. With a substantial fan base shared between the Halo and Destiny 2 communities, many players would likely welcome the introduction of this mode.

Destiny 2 has experienced fluctuations in player numbers following the release of the Lightfall expansion, with a decline in PC players noted post-expansion. The upcoming Final Shape expansion, set to launch in June and reportedly offering significant changes to the game’s mechanics, presents an opportunity to introduce the Halo-inspired mode and potentially re-engage players.
