Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami founds new company

Shinji Mikami Launches New Game Development Company

Renowned game developer Shinji Mikami, known for creating classics like Resident Evil, has recently founded a new company called KAMUY Inc. This revelation came to light through Mikami’s biography on the official Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered website (via Gematsu). Although Mikami was the creative producer for the original Shadows of the Damned game, his direct involvement in the upcoming remake remains uncertain.

In February 2023, Mikami made the decision to step down as the CEO of Tango Gameworks after a successful 12-year tenure. Following his departure, Mikami’s future plans were initially undisclosed.

However, in October of the same year, Mikami hinted at a return to game development after the expiration of a non-compete clause. He expressed this sentiment in a social media post on platform X.

During his extensive tenure at Capcom, Mikami served as the director for various Resident Evil titles and contributed to the development of experimental games like PN03, Viewtiful Joe, and Killer7.

Following the establishment of Tango Gameworks, Mikami directed The Evil Within, served as the executive producer for its sequel, and oversaw projects like Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush.
