Dragon’s Dogma 2 In Dragon’s Wake: Oxcart or walk?
After leaving Melve in Dragon’s Dogma 2, battling through hordes of enemies, passing Gathering of Beasts, and defeating your first Cyclops, the decision to accompany the soldiers on the oxcart to the Capital or go your own way is presented to you. With this guide, making the choice should be simpler.
Taking the oxcart to the Capital
Gregor, the captain of the guards, gives you the option to walk to Vernworth or ride in the oxcart after emerging victorious against the Cyclops. I suggest opting for the oxcart.
Since you are probably low on health after the intense battle and Vernworth is still quite a distance away, taking the oxcart is the safest and most optimal choice. This will also allow you to familiarize yourself with the oxcart mechanic, a primary method of fast travel between towns.
Typically, riding in an oxcart would cost around 100 Gold, but accompanying Gregor makes it free. Once you decide to go with Gregor, sit on the bench with the red cloth and select “Doze Off”. While the oxcart’s journey to Vernworth is slow, you can observe the surroundings in real-time.
There may not always be confrontations during the oxcart ride, but in this instance, a skirmish between Melve and Vernworth awaits. After dealing with the enemies, return to the oxcart and Doze Off once more. Congratulations, you have now arrived at Vernworth and have a good understanding of how the oxcart functions.
Walking to the Capital
If you have used a Camping Kit to heal near the oxcart’s location, consider embarking on your own journey. While I have completed the main quests in Vernworth and explored a significant portion of the Vermund region, there are still many hidden gems along the road connecting Melve and Vernworth that I have yet to discover due to their remote locations.
I would recommend opting to walk to the Capital only if your Loss Gauge is not too high. It presents an excellent opportunity to explore the road leading to Vernworth. In the future, you will likely prefer taking the oxcart to and from Melve rather than walking. Nevertheless, the allure of the excitement in Vernworth and the chance to unlock the Warrior and Sorcerer Vocations may persuade you to choose the oxcart.
