Microsoft and Sony have finally come together to launch a native PS5 version of Minecraft, putting an end to the lack of availability that had previously caused tension between the two companies.
Minecraft PS5 version outed by PlayStation Store backend
The news of the PS5 version of Minecraft was revealed by PlayStation Game Size, a popular PlayStation Network scrapper who discovered the title IDs for the upcoming release on the backend of the PS Store.
For those unfamiliar with the backstory, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission had mentioned during legal proceedings against Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard that Mojang had been given three years to create a native PS5 version of Minecraft, but failed to do so. Microsoft, in response, blamed Sony for not providing the necessary PS5 dev kits to make the release possible.
According to Microsoft, Sony’s reluctance to send PS5 dev kits to Mojang meant that only Xbox Series X|S players were able to experience the native release of Minecraft.
