Razer Blade 14 (2024) Review

The Latest Razer Blade 14: A Closer Look

Razer has unveiled its latest refresh of the 14-inch laptop, known as the Razer Blade 14. This new model boasts powerful performance hardware, featuring a Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU and up to an RTX 4070 mobile GPU. While these specs are becoming standard in gaming laptops, Razer distinguishes itself by incorporating them into a system that resembles a MacBook more than a traditional gaming machine. However, this premium design comes with a price tag that rivals Apple products, starting at $2699 for the model we reviewed.

Razer Blade 14 – Design and Features

Despite tweaks to bezels and ports, the Razer Blade 14 retains the signature all-black aesthetic that closely resembles a MacBook Pro. This results in a sleek, portable laptop, although it is slightly heavier than other ultrabooks at 4.12 pounds. The use of metal adds to its weight but contributes to an elegant overall design. However, the sharp front edge of the chassis may cause discomfort during use. Overall, the Blade 14 is an elegant gaming laptop with subtle branding until the RGB keyboard and green Razer logo illuminate.

The 14-inch panel on the Blade 14 offers a 2560×1600 resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate, making it suitable for gaming. Despite a peak brightness of 479.7 nits and a wide color gamut, the LED panel lacks complete HDR support and exhibits limited contrast. The laptop’s array of ports includes two USB-A and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, but lacks an SD card slot, with a proprietary power port. The standout feature is the impressive top-firing speakers that deliver rich sound.

The keyboard on the Blade 14 offers a decent typing experience with per-key RGB lighting. The oversized trackpad, while responsive, may register unintended inputs. The webcam quality is subpar, but the laptop features IR emitters for Windows Hello facial recognition.

Razer Blade 14 – Software

Running Windows 11, the Razer Blade 14 is free of bloatware, with Razer Synapse serving as the primary tool for hardware control. Synapse allows users to customize performance settings, battery options, audio enhancements, and display preferences.

Razer Blade 14 – Gaming and Performance

Equipped with a Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, the Razer Blade 14 delivers strong gaming performance at both 1080p and higher resolutions. The laptop comfortably exceeds 60fps in gaming benchmarks, even surpassing 100fps in some tests. Despite some thermal and noise issues during heavy loads, the Blade 14 showcases impressive gaming capabilities.

Battery life varies based on usage, with performance settings significantly impacting runtime. The laptop is available in different configurations starting at $2199 for the base model with an RTX 4060 and 16GB of memory, and $2699 for the upgraded RTX 4070 model with 32GB of memory.
