Electronic Arts recently announced that the cost of its EA Play subscription service will be going up next month.
Starting on May 10, the standard tier of EA Play will see a price increase from $4.99 / £3.99 per month to $5.99 / £5.99. The annual package will also rise from $29.99 / £19.99 to $39.99 / £35.99.
For those subscribed to the EA Play Pro tier, which includes more in-game rewards, perks, and access to brand-new EA games at launch, the price will be increasing from $14.99 / £14.99 to $16.99 / £16.99. The annual subscription for this tier will go up from $119.99 / £109.99 to $99.99 / £89.99.
Current subscribers have already been notified via email about the upcoming price adjustment. It is important to note that new members are already being charged the new prices.
According to reports, the new membership tiers have already been updated and are reflected in the EA App, while pricing on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox versions still show the old rates. The reason behind the price increase is to align fees with market value and currency changes.
The EA Play service originally launched in 2014 for Xbox One and later expanded to PS4 and PC in 2019 and 2020.
In addition to Electronic Arts, other publishers have also raised their subscription service prices. Last year, Microsoft increased the cost of its console version of Xbox Game Pass to $10.99 / £8.99 and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $16.99 / £12.99 per month.
Furthermore, there was a price increase for the Xbox Series X in certain regions, with the price jumping from $499 / £449 to $600.84 / £479.99.
