Part of the charm of Helldivers 2 lies in the way players can influence its ongoing narrative through their in-game decisions. While typically this involves excelling at tasks like completing Major Orders, the latest Major Order presents players with a more direct choice by allowing them to select the game’s next Stratagem.
Helldivers 2’s next Stratagem hinges on the initial planet players rescue
A recent Tweet has uncovered an Automaton invasion in the Lacaille Sector. To make matters worse, the Bots are rapidly securing weapons on the planets Choohe and Penta. With time running out to save both planets, Helldivers 2 offers players the opportunity to decide.
“Only the Stratagem on the first liberated planet can be rescued,” a new video clip states. “And the citizens, too,” it emphasizes. “The citizens hold the utmost significance.”
By rescuing Choohe first, Helldivers 2 players can unlock the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines. On the other hand, opting to save Penta first introduces the RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher to the game. Presumably, both Stratagems will be integrated into the game eventually. Nonetheless, players have a rare chance to dictate which one they want next.
Regrettably for the inhabitants of Choohe, it appears that Helldivers 2 players are more inclined towards rocket launchers than mines. “I’ve got family on Choohe,” quipped one Reddit user, “but dad prioritizes a shiny new rocket launcher. Apologies, kids.”
“As much as I would love to see the mines,” remarked another, “it seems like we won’t be receiving them anytime soon. I seem to be in the minority, as most divers are in favor of a 6th launcher.”
Helldivers 2 players are also speculating whether selecting Penta will prompt the Automatons to start utilizing the mines against them. While Arrowhead has not addressed this possibility, it could lead the game in an intriguing new direction.
