Which Version of Link Smells the Worst? Nintendo Producers Weigh In

Each version of Link, the primary protagonist in the Legend of Zelda franchise, has their own unique fighting style, weapons, and storylines. However, there’s one attribute that we didn’t know was up for debate: their hygiene. After a TikTok user ranked each Link’s odor, Wired decided to ask long-time producer Eiji Aonuma and Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi which Link they believed to be the smelliest.

Aonuma, rather predictably, went with Link from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, admitting that the combination of both games would create some rather unpleasant odours due to the Barbarian Armor. Fujibayashi, on the other hand, chose Link from Twilight Princess, stating that aside from running through dungeons as a wolf, Link also engages in sumo wrestling with the Goron tribe and is therefore likely to have a stronger body odor compared to the rest of the versions of Link.

While they may be fictional characters, Link’s differing odors are just one small detail that adds to their individuality. Perhaps next time we can get producers to talk about more pressing questions like Nintendo’s motivations to release games like Jump Rope Challenge.

“There are some scenes in Twilight Princess where Link engages in sumo wrestling with the Goron tribe. I imagine he’s pretty smelly in that situation.”
