Indie banger Dead Cells roars past 10m sales – support till 2025

Dead Cells, the smash hit game that combines rogue-like and Metroidvania elements, has sold over 10 million copies across all platforms. While the game originally released on Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018, it has maintained its popularity and successfully transitioned to mobile devices on both iOS and Android. In addition to its immense success, the game will continue to receive updates and support until at least 2025.

Dead Cells’ constant stream of updates and multiple DLCs have helped keep the game fresh and engaging. The Return to Castlevania DLC was especially well-received by fans. Though not surprising – given the game’s popularity – it is heartening to see such dedication to a game that has been out since 2018.

What’s more, there is a roadmap to guide development through 2024, ensuring that Dead Cells will remain a best-in-class roguelike game for years to come. It is a testament to the game’s staying power that update support will last for over eight years since its initial release in Early Access.

While Dead Cells has had its detractors, including being at the center of the IGN-Filip Miucin plagiarism scandal in 2018, the game has graduated beyond such events and continues to thrive. Fans of the genre looking for more inspiration should check out our guide to the best fighting games.
