Star Wars Outlaws directors’ commentary reveals more of the open-world story

Ubisoft and Massive Games Offer a Director’s Commentary for Star Wars Outlaws

Narrative director Navid Khavari, creative director Julian Gerighty, and game director Mathias Karlson are taking fans on a journey through the upcoming game Star Wars Outlaws with a special directors’ commentary. During Ubisoft Forward showcase on Monday, these developers gave fans a tour of the game’s world, Toshara, as well as a detailed breakdown of the game’s plot and narrative choices.

Behind the Scenes of Toshara

The commentary provides an in-depth look at the newest hive of scum and villainy in the Star Wars galaxy- Toshara- where the game’s protagonist, Kay Vess, operates. The directors outline the effort that went into developing Toshara’s world and the challenges they faced. In Star Wars Outlaws, players will witness Vess’ infiltration of a Pyke Syndicate chop shop and how he makes off with the macguffin before returning to the dusty border town to fence the wares. However, things take a bloody and dark turn over cocktails.

Exploring Gameplay and Mechanics

Aside from the plot and setting, the commentary also details how a Grand Theft Auto-style experience influenced the game’s development. Gerighty states that players should expect heavy resistance and military force from the Empire as their level of “wanted-ness” increases throughout the campaign. This could result in exciting space-combat scenarios in which players have to fight off TIE Fighters while trying to escape.

Release Date and Trailer

Star Wars Outlaws is set to release sometime in 2024. Fans of the Star Wars franchise, who crave the exciting narrative arcs revolving around mercenaries, smugglers, spies, and criminals, can’t wait.
