Mortal Kombat 1 Character Bios Lay Out New Roles for Old Heroes, First Kombat Kast Dated

The Mortal Kombat 1 Cast: Major Changes and Character Bios Revealed

The universe of Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 1 is about to undergo significant changes, as NetherRealm Studios has been teasing. The development team has recently released character bios that give insights into how the current cast will be transformed in the upcoming reboot. Additionally, NetherRealm has announced the air date of the game’s first Kombat Kast.

The Mortal Kombat 1 Cast is Going Through Some Big Changes

The official Mortal Kombat website now features updated character bios for Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Kung Lao, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kenshi Takahashi, and Mileena. While Liu Kang’s story remains relatively unchanged as he is the timeline creator, Johnny Cage is still recognizable, portrayed as a declining celebrity who joins Liu Kang’s mission to increase his fame.

The trailers and past interviews have hinted at changes for the other characters, but the bios delve deeper into these alterations. For instance, Mileena and Kitana are now presented as twin sisters. Mileena is destined to inherit Outworld’s throne, while Kitana serves as her bodyguard.

A twist in their narrative is Mileena being infected with the Tarkat disease, which will force her into battle if her secret is exposed. Kitana, born just after Mileena, is considered the more level-headed sister but lacks the rightful claim to the throne. Mileena’s origin involves cloning Kitana with Tarkatan DNA, and the emergence of this new disease raises questions not only about the existence of Tarkatans like Baraka but also about the impending conflict between the two sisters.

In this iteration, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are revealed to be siblings, a detail previously hinted at through identical Lin Kuei medallions in the initial cinematic trailer. Sub-Zero assumes the role of the Lin Kuei Grandmaster but has grown weary of defending Earthrealm against nonexistent threats. On the other hand, Scorpion opposes this ideology and fears the day he may have to clash with his brother for control over the Lin Kuei’s legacy. This storyline paves a different path to the traditional rivalry between Scorpion of the Shirai Ryu and Sub-Zero of the Lin Kuei.

Kung Lao, coming from a humble farm in Fengjian, fears that his life will lack significance. However, everything changes when Liu Kang summons him to protect Earthrealm. Conversely, Raiden, also hailing from the same region, prefers tending to the fields, showing hesitancy in aiding Earthrealm and unlocking his true potential as a great warrior, an approach that contrasts with his past depiction as a god rather than a mortal.

Kenshi’s bio is succinct yet sufficiently distinct. The Takahashi family lost their prized sword, Sento, and joined the bakuto, the yakuza’s precursor, for protection. Kenshi desires to liberate his family from this control and corruption, leading him to attempt stealing Sento.

These are just a few confirmed characters, and there are more surprises to come. Although the exact timing of future reveals remains unknown, fans can expect the roster to expand in the near future. The first Kombat Kast, led by the game’s developers, is scheduled for July 6 at 10 a.m. PT. The event will feature discussions on Kameos and provide comprehensive gameplay breakdowns for Scorpion and Johnny Cage.
