Good Omens season 2’s best thing is also its worst

If you were curious about what the second season of Good Omens has in store for Aziraphale and Crowley, you’re in luck. Season 2 continues after the first season, with the angel and demon adjusting to life after avoiding the apocalypse. However, the new season also includes lengthy flashback sequences known as “minisodes,” which are set in the past and don’t contribute much to the main storyline. While these flashbacks are enjoyable for fans of the characters, they tend to detract from the central plot.

Aziraphale and Crowley are captivating characters, and any time spent with them is delightful. Their chemistry is superb, and their misadventures throughout history make for fascinating viewing. The flashbacks provide insight into their relationship and the events that shaped it. However, the second season has a larger plot involving the fate of the universe, as well as a side plot of matchmaking two shopkeepers. Unfortunately, the minisodes disrupt the flow of these plots and add little to the overall episodes.

While the historical settings and the chemistry between the characters in the flashbacks are enjoyable, it’s easy to forget about the main plotline when it only receives a minimal amount of screen time. As a fan, it’s a mixed feeling of wanting more of the characters but also desiring a stronger focus on the present-day story. Overall, the second season of Good Omens offers glimpses into the past but fails to fully develop the main narrative.

Good Omens season 2 is available on Prime Video starting July 28.
