London-based Studio Scriptic Raises $6.2 Million in Second Seed Funding Round

Scriptic, a London-based studio, has successfully raised $6.2 million in its second seed funding round. This round saw the participation of Sony subsidiary Sony Investment Fund, further solidifying Scriptic’s position in the industry.

Increasing the Total Seed Round to $8.7 Million

With the inclusion of this recent investment, Scriptic’s total seed funding now amounts to $8.7 million. Earlier this year, the company secured another investment in June which involved notable investors such as Amazon Alexa Fund.

Scriptic’s Focus on Phone-First Interactive Stories

Scriptic specializes in the development of phone-first interactive stories. These stories are designed to be efficient to produce, easily scalable, and highly accessible to consumers. As a pioneer in the use of generative AI in story-based media, Scriptic has already achieved success with titles like “Scriptic: Crime Stories” on Netflix. This particular title garnered over 1.5 million installs and received a BAFTA nomination.

Intelligent Design for the Future of Interactive Entertainment

“Scriptic is emerging as a front-runner in the future of interactive entertainment, and we are excited to be partnering with the team for the next chapter of their growth journey in an area where we see tremendous opportunity,” said Antonio Avitabile, the managing director of the EU at Sony Ventre Corporation. Avitabile recognized Scriptic’s highly scalable, efficient, and sophisticated mobile-first approach as game-changing in the realm of interactive content. Furthermore, Sony believes that Scriptic’s user-generated content (UGC) offering has the potential to empower millions of everyday storytellers.

Scriptic CEO and co-founder Nihal Thahoor expressed his excitement about having Sony Innovation Fund join their roster of investors. Thahoor emphasized that Sony shares their vision for the future of interactive media and storytelling.

The Creative Origins of Scriptic

Originally founded as Electricnoir, Scriptic has built a catalog of titles that simulate the interactive world of smartphones and apps, reflecting people’s digital lives. With co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Benedict Tatham, Thahoor assembled a creative team with expertise in both games and TV, allowing the studio to leverage cross-medium experience in their gaming platform.

Utilizing the Investment for Future Growth

Scriptic plans to utilize this investment to expand its content pipeline of interactive, phone-based shows. Additionally, the studio aims to activate its user-generated content strategy, granting external writers and storytellers access to Scriptic’s AI-powered creative tools.

Looking Ahead

With this latest seed funding round, Scriptic is poised to continue pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling and solidify its position as a leader in the future of interactive entertainment.
