Stray Is Getting An Animated Movie

Stray Game to be Adapted into an Animated Movie, Annapurna Announces

The popular indie game Stray, featuring a cat and its robotic companions, is set to make its way to the big screen. Publisher Annapurna has revealed plans to develop an animated movie based on the 2022 adventure game, marking the first of many game-to-film adaptations from Annapurna Interactive’s lineup. While details such as the director, cast, and release date have yet to be disclosed, Annapurna Animation, led by former Disney Animation executives Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein, is determined to capture the essence of Stray’s comedic and humanistic storytelling.

Stray, developed by BlueTwelve, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world devoid of humans. Players embark on the journey of a cat separated from its companions, traversing through cities inhabited by sentient robots. Along the way, the cat befriends a flying drone called B-12. The game achieved critical acclaim, winning Best Debut Indie at the Game Awards and receiving an Xbox release last month.
