Slay the Princess: Ranking all the Princesses

Slay the Princess: Ranking the Princesses in the Game

Since the full release of Slay the Princess, fans have been ranking the different Princesses in the game. Today, we present the Slay the Princess Princess ranking, where we determine the fairest, vilest, funniest, and scariest among all the monarchs. We will be considering each Princess’s base form, branching paths, and exclusive variants in our rating.

Note: This article contains spoilers.

15. The Fury

While the oozing organ-infested world adds a great touch to The Fury, the lack of outcome beyond getting imploded takes away from the momentum of this Princess. Her design is appropriately horrific, but we don’t get enough time to truly be scared by it.

14. The Stranger

The Stranger is a bit of a disappointment compared to the Demo. The fusion of the Princess with a dissonant sing-song voice was creepy and interesting, but it has been replaced with splitting her off repeatedly. It could have been much more exciting.

13. The Drowned Grey

Drowned Grey has an appropriately ill-at-ease buildup, and it’s satisfying to see a Princess take revenge in such a cold manner. However, there’s not much more to say about her.

12. The Burned Grey

The Princess’s manic and creepy love, as well as her attempts to justify it, make The Burned Grey intriguing. The unsettling nature of loving someone as they burn adds to the overall appeal.

11. The Beast

The design of The Beast is great and unique among the Princesses. Her determined silence and animal form add a different dynamic to the game, especially in The Den where she gets stuck and pleads with her eyes.

10. The Adversary

The level of detail in Adversary’s character is pleasantly surprising. Her single-minded focus on violence and her patience to keep The Hero around for another fight make her an interesting Princess.

9. The Wraith

As a Princess who takes what she wants by force, The Wraith’s complete ruthlessness and impatience are justified in her route. Seeing her insult the Voices and the Narrator adds an enjoyable touch to her character.

8. The Razor

Razor was initially the least interesting Princess in the demo, but she turns out to be entertaining in the full release. She is the perfect mix of cute and creepy, with her gleeful tactician role and the unexpected twist of turning herself into blades.

7. The Damsel

Although I wanted more from Damsel’s route, I appreciate the direction they took with her character. The transformation from a helpless damsel in distress to a blank slate being projected upon is a clever concept. The introduction of the Deconstructed Damsel adds a creepy element.

6. The Prisoner

The Prisoner is the most sincere Princess, besides Thorn, in my opinion. While I wished there was more to her character, I appreciate her mix of fear-induced fury and willingness to reason. It’s a shame we couldn’t learn more about her during our time together.

5. The Wild

The Wild Princess is a bizarre character that raises questions about the nature of the Hero and Princess’ relationship. The sudden shift in tone from Beast and Witch to The Wild suits the confusion and the ability to defy her will. The chapter becomes harrowing if you choose to defy her and slay her.

4. The Spectre

The Spectre’s combination of giddy optimism, guilt tripping, and glimpses into anger creates a multi-layered Princess. She presents herself as sad and wanting to go home, manipulating the player into feeling guilty. The way she reacts to the Voices and the Narrator adds depth to her character.

3. The Tower

The Tower may have a straightforward story, but it delivers on its promise of divine terror. The Princess truly instills fear while also giving the player a chance to help her. The forced kneeling, overtaking the Narrator, and her breakdown if you kill her are all impactful moments.

2. The Nightmare

The Moment of Clarity sequence elevates The Nightmare to second place. The depth and complexity in this chapter, along with the tense decisions and attempts to help her, create a memorable experience. Even a happy ending feels like a journey of great effort.

1. The Witch

Unexpectedly, The Witch takes the top spot, driven by the impact of The Thorn chapter. Thorn is the route that resonates the most, offering a love story at the core of the game. The Witch herself is both cute and devious, with her unwavering grudge and willingness to crush you. The Witch truly stands out as an iconic character in the game.

And that concludes the Slay the Princess Princess ranking. Which Princess struck a chord with you and why? Who do you believe is the best Princess in the game?
