Mercenary class unveiled for Path of Exile 2, and it plays like shooter

The Mercenary Class Brings a New Style of Play to Path of Exile 2

The Mercenary class has been revealed for Path of Exile 2, and it introduces an entirely new style of play to the game, incorporating shooter gameplay elements. While the game has not transitioned to first-person mode, players will have the option to use WASD movement and move slightly while attacking, marking the first time movement will be fluidly interchangeable in the series.

The Mercenary’s gameplay centers around their crossbow weapon, which can function as a shotgun, assault rifle, or sniper rifle, depending on the type of crossbow being used. Players will have the ability to carry two different kinds of crossbows simultaneously, each with alternative capabilities based on the type of ammunition being used.

If the player opts for incendiary ammo, their assault rifle crossbow will rev up like a mini-gun, inflicting fiery devastation once fully operational. Likewise, a sniper crossbow paired with incendiary ammo will behave more like a rocket launcher, exploding on impact. Alternatively, frost ammo freezes enemies and generates various frost effects depending on the crossbow that’s used.

Additionally, a grenade-launcher attachment adds another layer of diversity, offering various types of grenades for players to utilize in combat.

The reveal of the Mercenary class was showcased by Grinding Gear Games to press ahead of a Path of Exile stream, giving a preview of the new features and gameplay footage. The video shows the Mercenary character navigating a dark, ruined town before confronting a grotesque boss at the end.
