We received news last August that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 would be hitting theaters on December 20, 2024. However, a new teaser has given us another glimpse at its latest star: Shadow the Hedgehog.

This is not the first time we have seen Shadow, as he briefly appeared during Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s mid-credits scene, setting him up as presumably the antagonist of the third film. While his exact role and voice actor remain unknown, the latest image provides a good look at Shadow’s signature air shoes.

Production on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had come to a halt due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. The latest update confirms that work has resumed following the suspension of the strike. Jeff Fowler continues to be in the director’s chair, and the returning cast includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Tails), Idris Elba (Knuckles), and James Marsden (Tom Wachowski).

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was a box office hit, becoming the highest-grossing video game film of all time in the U.S. until The Super Mario Bros. Movie took the crown earlier this year. Furthermore, a live-action TV spin-off starring Knuckles is in the works and is set to release early next year.
