E3 Officially Dead, ESA Issues Statement

After years of attempted revivals, the iconic gaming show E3 has officially come to an end. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that E3 will not be returning, marking the end of an era in the gaming industry.

In a brief tweet sent out on Tuesday, the ESA bid farewell to E3 with a message that expressed gratitude for the memories created over the more than two decades of the event. The tweet also included the acronym “GGWP,” signifying “Good game, well played.”

E3 had struggled to return following 2019 show

The future of E3 has been uncertain in recent years. The show did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and E3 2021 was conducted as an online-only event. Subsequently, E3 2022 was canceled due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

E3 2023, scheduled for June 13-16, was also canceled due to what organizer ReedPop described as a lack of “sustained interest.” The organization stated, “It simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”
