Helldivers 2 Warbonds Will Not Be Pay-to-Win

Helldivers 2 Warbonds Unveiled

Arrowhead Game Studios has provided a detailed look at the new Helldivers 2 Warbonds live service system, emphasizing that it is not intended to be pay-to-win. While players will receive one of the Warbonds as a gift from Super Earth, the remaining ones will have to be acquired using Super Credits.

What are Helldivers 2 Warbonds?

Deputy Game Director Sagar Beroshi describes Warbonds as “a treasure chest full of toys.” Each Warbond functions like a Battle Pass, offering multiple pages of unlockable content that can be accessed by earning medals during gameplay. These medals are obtained through exploration, completing objectives, missions, and operations.

Upon starting the game, players will be given the Helldivers Mobilize Warbond as a gift from Super Earth. However, premium Warbonds can only be unlocked with Super Credits. These can be discovered during missions by exploring points of interest, or they can be purchased from the in-game store using real currency. It is important to note that “the Warbonds are NOT a pay-to-win, FOMO-driven [Fear of Missing Out] system.”

One key feature that sets Warbonds apart from traditional Battle Passes is that they do not expire. Beroshi stated that they “will not retire earlier Warbonds as new ones are released,” and they can be picked up and completed at any time.

The game is set to launch on February 8, featuring the complimentary Warbond and the premium Steeled Veterans Warbond. The latter includes new armor sets, capes, pistol, grenade, and primary weapons such as the JAR-5 Dominator and the SG-225IE Breaker Incendiary. Players who have purchased the Super Citizen Edition will receive the Steeled Veterans Warbond for free as well.

Super Credits are also usable for purchasing other items from the Acquisition Center Superstore, which will feature rotating items, including sets of armor. However, additional items available there remain unclear.
