Minecraft’s Universal Studios DLC Provides Some Shockingly Good Theme Park Recreations

Minecraft has been in constant evolution since its debut in 2011. Players have seen an insane number of creative servers brought to life by fans over the years, as well as packs of downloadable content that cover everything from Star Wars to SpongeBob Squarepants and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And now, Minecraft has brought Universal Studios to the game with its newest DLC pack, which is packed with rides, games, and an array of movie characters.

The Universal Studios Experience was officially released on February 13 and is available now. The game faithfully recreates some of the most iconic theme park rides of all time, including two that no longer exist in the United States, along with a variety of minigames and a full theme park to explore.

The Universal Studios Experience is not a recreation of a single park like the 2021’s Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom DLC. Instead, it draws elements from both Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando, as well as introduces new elements from the movies of the in-game rides.

The DLC pack features Minecraft recreations of famous attractions like The ET Adventure, The Mummy, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, the World Famous Studio Tour, and Jurassic World: The Ride, along with beloved former attractions like Back To the Future: The Ride and Jaws.

Despite the potential for quick and sloppy recreations, the attention to detail in bringing these attractions to life in Minecraft is remarkable. Each ride is meticulously recreated and captures the essence of the original attractions.

Impressions

From first-hand experience with the Orlando park, the Universal Studios Experience is a pleasant surprise. The level of detail put into recreating these attractions in Minecraft is top-notch, even for rides like The ET Adventure, which is the oldest attraction at Universal Orlando Resort.

While the video does not represent the final sound of the rides, we have been assured by Universal and Microsoft that the in-game rides will feature the sound effects and music expected from these attractions.

In addition to the rides, the Universal Studios Experience includes a series of minigames inspired by the rides. Completing these games is necessary to restore the missing letters from the Universal Studios sign and involves facing off against iconic movie villains from Jaws, dinosaurs, and even The Mummy.

The DLC pack also includes various eateries and shops where players can purchase trinkets and snacks for their park adventure.

Ultimately, the goal behind these theme park-based DLC packs is to provide an accessible escape for players looking to relive cherished theme park experiences in the comfort of their homes. While not perfect renditions of the real attractions, they capture the spirit of the rides and provide an unexpected level of entertainment. Plus, they might just introduce you to the intricacies of ET lore you never knew existed.
