Capcom Addresses Dragon’s Dogma 2 PC Performance And Microtransaction Backlash

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Launch Plagued by Performance Issues and Microtransactions

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is highly anticipated this year and has received positive reviews from critics, including a 9 out of 10 from us. However, the game has faced criticism from Steam players for its troubled launch performance and inclusion of day-one microtransactions.

Performance Problems

Steam players have reported performance issues such as framerate drops, freezes, and crashes. Capcom has acknowledged these problems in a Steam blog post, promising to address critical problems like crashes and freezing in future patches. The game’s CPU allocation for character calculations has caused high CPU usage in certain situations, impacting the frame rate.

The console versions also have frame rate issues, particularly during large-scale battles as noted in our review.

Microtransactions Concerns

The game’s microtransactions have also sparked backlash, with players criticizing the sale of useful exploration gear like Portcrystals and the Art of Metamorphosis book. These items can be purchased individually or as part of the “A Boon for Adventurers – New Journey Pack” bundle included in the Deluxe Edition.

Capcom’s Response

Capcom responded to these complaints by pointing out that the items available for purchase can also be obtained through normal gameplay. While the microtransactions offer convenience, some players feel they push players towards making additional purchases to ease the gaming experience.

Player Backlash

Combined with the performance issues, the negative reviews on Steam have resulted in a “Mostly Negative” rating for the game shortly after launch. Despite the pushback, it seems that Capcom has no plans to change its monetization approach at this time.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
