Street Fighter 6 Review

Street Fighter has been a beloved fighting game series for decades, and it’s still going strong with the release of Street Fighter 6. This new entry in the series promises to deliver more content and refined gameplay than its predecessor.

An Updated Roster

Street Fighter 6 has 18 fighters in its roster, including series favorites Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li. While the roster could be larger, four additional fighters have been announced and will drop within the next year. These DLC Fighters will even have some presence in the World Tour single-player mode.

Beautiful Graphics

Street Fighter 6 looks better than ever on new hardware, with every fighter beautifully detailed, rugged, and movements wonderfully smooth. The game runs flawlessly on PC, with zero slowdowns even with the settings turned up.

Accessibility is Key

Street Fighter 6 offers three distinct control styles: Classic, Modern, and Dynamic. Classic is the tried and true 6-button layout of light, medium, and heavy punches and kicks. Modern is a simplified control scheme that removes many fiddly direction inputs from attacks. Dynamic is clearly meant for a party setting or a beginner audience.

Introducing the Drive System

In Street Fighter 6, there’s a new gimmick in the form of the Drive system. The Drive Gauge can be spent on powerful offensive/defensive options, adding a new layer of strategy to fights. While tricky for beginners, mastering this system can give players a big advantage online.

A Full-Blown Campaign

Street Fighter 6’s single-player mode, called the World Tour, is a full-blown campaign with an open world, character creation, and RPG elements. Playing as your own unique Fighter, you embark on a quest to become stronger in Metro City, where you’ll face multiple opponents. The World Tour mode introduces fighting mechanics gradually and features standout fights in traditional 1v1 matches.

The Fighting Grounds

For when you’ve had your fill of the World Tour, all the game modes you’d usually expect from Street Fighter are accessible in the Fighting Grounds, including Arcade Mode, which is a series of fights broken up with Bonus Stages.

Overall, Street Fighter 6 is a welcome addition to the series and a game that any fighting game fan should have in their library. With its beautiful graphics, accessible controls, and full-blown campaign mode, this is a game that has something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newcomer to the genre.
