How to Get 5 Marines in Aliens: Dark Descent

Having more help in Aliens: Dark Descent can significantly improve your gameplay experience. One way to enhance your squad is by increasing the number of members. Each squadmate possesses unique abilities that can provide advantages against specific enemies, excluding the aliens. While you start with a limited number of squadmates, the game offers an opportunity to expand your fire team. If you want to make your life easier and have extra firepower, follow this guide to learn how to obtain 5 Marines in Aliens: Dark Descent.

The Process of Obtaining 5 Marines

The good news is that acquiring a fifth member is relatively simple. However, the somewhat bad news is that you need to progress further into the game to unlock an additional slot. Here’s an overview of the steps:

  • Complete Mission 6: Atmospheric Nightmare
  • Reach Basement Floor 1
  • Hack into an APC

To begin, ensure you are sufficiently advanced in the game to access Mission 6. This mission becomes available around the 10-hour mark, marking a significant milestone in Aliens: Dark Descent.

During Atmospheric Nightmare, navigate your way down to Basement Floor 1. The map will guide you to the location. However, be prepared to encounter a large number of aliens in the area. Eliminate the threat before proceeding.

Once the area is clear, proceed to the elevator and descend. You will come across an APC, which requires hacking to unlock the door. You can either do this yourself or rely on a squadmate with the Tecker class. After opening the door, a cut scene will play, and you will be taken back to the Otago, completing the mission and allowing you to take a fifth squad member with you.

The Importance of Having 5 Marines

Operating with a four-man team can pose challenges, especially if one of your teammates is recovering from trauma. This can result in decreased damage output and slower progress. However, with five squadmates, you can include the traumatized Marine in your team, as the new member can help offset the trauma’s impact. Additionally, with diverse roles within your team, the fifth member can transform your squad into a well-coordinated machine, offering a broader range of options. This enhanced flexibility allows for more strategic decision-making and management in Aliens: Dark Descent.
