NetEase’s Vikingard Begins Final Crossover Arc with MGM’s Vikings

NetEase’s Vikingard has embarked on a new crossover event with the esteemed MGM TV show Vikings, introducing “The Final War” to the game. This collaboration is not entirely uncharted territory, as it follows the success of two previous Vikings crossovers. The previous collaborations brought fan-favorite characters like Ragnar, Lagertha, and Floki to Vikingard and elevated the game’s popularity. In fact, the game entered the ranks of the US’ top 200 highest-grossing mobile games when the first crossover happened in September 2022, shortly after its launch.

Coming from Kattegat

Vikingard X Vikings is a natural fit for a crossover event, given that both the game and the show are built around interpretations of real history. In this third collaboration event, players can unite all Norse warriors and bring the ongoing storyline to its conclusion. The event takes place in Kattegat, Ragnar’s home in the show, which is engulfed in civil war. Players will engage in battles, upgrade their gear in Jötunheimr, and unlock new cosmetics. Additionally, the Vikings cast members Torvi and Ivar the Boneless have also joined Vikingard as playable characters. Ivar’s addition follows in the footsteps of his older brothers Bjorn and Ubbe, making him one of the most famous Vikings in history.

“The latest crossover event represents the collective visions of MGM and Vikingard, with brand-new content that builds on everything released in the game thus far,” said NetEase.

NetEase had a successful first quarter in 2023, generating $3.6 billion in revenue. When combined with Tencent’s earnings, the two companies accounted for over 80 percent of all revenue generated by China’s top 10 games companies for the period.

In March, Vikingard was made available on alternative app stores such as AppGallery and the Amazon Appstore through the distribution platform Flexion.
