ESRB Rates Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake
It has been confirmed that the ESRB has given a rating to the upcoming Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake. The popular RPG has been rated by the North American rating board, securing an E for Everyone rating. The game is noted for its mild fantasy violence and mild suggestive themes, with “no interactive elements” present.
The game’s description on the ESRB website describes it as an adventure role-playing game in which players assist Mario in rescuing Princess Peach from an alien group. The game involves traversing whimsical worlds, interacting with characters, and engaging in turn-/puzzle-based combat against paper creatures. Various attacks, such as boot stomp, hammer strike, and fire balls, are used against cartoony enemies. Characters engage in brief flirtatious dialogue, and some are designed with large chests or exaggerated proportions.
The appearance of the game on the ESRB website has sparked speculation among fans that the release of the game on the Nintendo Switch may be sooner than expected. This news has generated excitement among the community, with many hoping for an earlier release date.
Originally released in 2004, Paper Mario continues the paper origami style of the first N64 game but with new abilities and an expansive story. This remake follows the release of Super Mario RPG last month, of which the Paper Mario series is a spiritual successor. The original N64 Paper Mario game is also available to play via Nintendo Switch Online.
