The French Embassy and Masseka Donate €300,000 to Establish Gaming Hub in Senegal

The French Embassy in Senegal and game studio Masseka have joined forces to donate a total of €300,000 ($327,694.50) for the creation of a new gaming hub in Senegal. This initiative aims to support the growth of the gaming industry in West Africa and make Senegal a prominent player in the field.

Partnerships and Support

The project is backed by game studio Kayfo, which will provide technical support, and the Senegalese government organization DER F/J, which will offer office space in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal. Additionally, the Occitanie Region in France has expressed its support, although the specifics of their contribution are yet to be determined.

Masseka, known as the first European video game company that exclusively develops content based on the myths and legends of the African continent, had previously collaborated with the French Embassy in 2019 during the Dakar Digital Show.

Aiming for Success

The donated funds will be used to establish a hybrid project that functions as both an incubator and development studio. The main goal of the gaming hub is to promote Senegal as a hub for the gaming industry in West Africa. Starting from September, game developers from all over the country will have the opportunity to receive training at the hub and will be paid a salary throughout the program.

Africa has witnessed remarkable growth in the gaming market, with mobile gaming leading the way. The affordability and accessibility of mobile gaming, combined with the increase in internet penetration across the continent, have made it the preferred platform for millions of people in Africa. This new investment will open doors for more individuals to pursue careers in game development.

Last month, Carry1st announced a partnership with India’s Mobile Premier League, solidifying its role as the official licensor and publisher.
