Sony Introduces PlayStation 5 System Software Beta

Sony has unveiled a new beta for the PlayStation 5 system software, which includes various enhancements such as accessibility features, quality of life updates, and expanded storage support. The announcement was made by Hideaki Nishino on the official PlayStation blog.

Improved Accessibility Features

One notable accessibility feature is the ability to add a second controller to an account to serve as an assist controller. This allows for easier assistance in challenging game sections, making it particularly helpful for parents helping their children. Additionally, controller haptics during PS5 navigation can be activated to aid players with visual or hearing impairments.

Enhancements to PSN’s Social Features

Furthermore, PSN’s social features will receive upgrades. Users can now invite and join game sessions directly from their friends list, and invitations can be sent to multiple friends simultaneously. Emoji reactions have also been introduced to enhance chatting experiences.

Quality of Life Updates

As for general quality of life improvements, players can now search for games in their library, providing a convenient way to find specific titles. Moreover, the annoying beep sound when turning the PS5 on and off can now be disabled, offering a more pleasant experience. Additionally, the visual presentation of Game Help cards, which offer spoiler-free hints on game progression, has been enhanced for easier access to relevant details. Lastly, the maximum limit for SSD storage has been expanded from 4TB to 8TB.

Beta Availability and Global Release

The beta version is currently being rolled out, with selected users receiving invitations via email. The beta is available in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and France. Sony plans to release the update globally “later this year”.
