Insomniac apologizes for getting Miles’ flag wrong in Spider-Man 2: “Accurate representation matters”

Insomniac Games Releases Update to Fix Flag Inaccuracy in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac Games has addressed a flag inaccuracy issue in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 through a recent patch. The incorrect flag was observed hanging in Miles Morales’ apartment during a player’s exploration of his family home. The flag depicted was of Cuba, despite Miles being of Puerto Rican descent.

Although both the Cuban and Puerto Rican flags share similar colors, the error was noticeable and did not accurately represent Miles or his mother Rio. This inconsistency was particularly puzzling considering the game’s attention to detail in symbolizing Miles’ connection to Puerto Rico. Notably, the flag in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was portrayed correctly.

Insomniac Games swiftly responded to the issue after it was brought to their attention. James Stevenson, the director of community, confirmed that a fix for the problem was in the works and would be included in a future update.

The recently released Patch 1.001.003, which went live on October 26, resolves the flag inaccuracy and addresses other important issues. Insomniac Games expressed their apologies for the mistake through a statement on Twitter, saying, “Today’s patch corrects an error where the Cuban flag was incorrectly displayed instead of the Puerto Rican flag. We understand that accurate representation matters, and greatly regret this error. We sincerely apologize and will do better in the future.”

In addition to fixing the flag, the update enhances the game’s stability. It also resolves a bug related to models not loading correctly after long play sessions, which caused players to appear as white cubes. Furthermore, the update fixes a brightness issue with The Amazing 2 Suit’s Spider logo.

Despite the flag inaccuracy, Spider-Man 2 has been phenomenally successful since its launch on October 20. According to PlayStation, the game sold over 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game to date. It surpassed the sales record of previous titles like God of War: Ragnarök and The Last of Us: Part 2.
