Twitch Ending Support For The Switch App Early Next Year

Bad news for Nintendo Switch users who enjoy using the Twitch app – Twitch has announced that it will be discontinuing support for the app on the Nintendo Switch on January 31, 2024.

Starting from next week, on November 6, 2023, new users will no longer be able to download the Twitch app from the Nintendo Switch eShop. Existing users will also lose access to the app early next year.

Twitch provided a statement to The Verge regarding the removal of its app from the eShop:

“We recently made the difficult decision to remove the Twitch app from the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo remains a valued partner and we appreciate all of the support the Switch community has provided to Twitch and our streamers.”

The Twitch App was initially launched on the Switch eShop in November 2021, allowing users to watch livestream gaming videos, esports, and IRL broadcasts, just like on the website and phone app. However, it was not without its issues.

As mentioned in our previous coverage on Nintendo Life:

“It doesn’t look like you can use chat, or view chat, unless you’re not actually watching the stream, and you can’t stream games from the Switch, either. While watching a stream, the only options are to pause, hide the UI, or close the stream.”

If you haven’t had the chance to try out the Twitch app on the Switch and are curious about it, there is still time to do so. You can find full instructions for the free download on the Twitch website.
