PS3 Reportedly Still Has Millions of Monthly Active Users

Sony Playstation 3 Maintains Strong Monthly User Base

Sony’s Playstation 3 still boasts an impressive monthly active user count, with nearly two million users continuing to enjoy the classic console. This revelation was part of a leaked presentation from the recent Insomniac Games ransomware attack, which contained a slide detailing the monthly active users on the PlayStation Network.

Die-hard PS3 Users Keeping Classic Titles Alive

The leaked slide, discovered by Exputer, provides insight into the ongoing player base for Sony’s consoles. As of February 2023, it was projected that PSN MAUs would reach 107.5 million, adjusted for data latency. The PS4 leads the pack with 71.5 million PSN MAUs, given the large number of consoles in circulation. However, the PS5 is rapidly gaining ground, with almost 37.1 million MAUs by February 2023.

From December 2022 to February 2023, the PS3’s MAUs fluctuated between 2.3 million to 1.9 million. These numbers are particularly remarkable for a console that has been around for almost two decades. The continued demand for titles on the PS3’s library has fans eagerly hoping for some form of emulation support in the absence of backwards compatibility.

At present, PS3 games are exclusively available for streaming to PS Plus Premium members in certain regions.

We are unable to share the slide directly due to confidentiality reasons, but it can be found on Exputer for those interested in viewing it.
