How to Equip Abilities in Final Fantasy 16

If you come across a skill tree in any video game, it usually means that you’ll have access to powerful and unique Abilities. In Final Fantasy 16, the latest action-packed JRPG from Square Enix, the main character Clive can unlock various skills and Abilities to utilize in combat. These Abilities not only enhance Clive’s attacks and maneuvers, but some of them are derived from the mystical power of the Eikons. If you’re wondering how to equip new Abilities in Final Fantasy 16, we’ve got you covered.

Where to Equip New Abilities

To access the menu in Final Fantasy 16, simply press the ‘Select’ button on your PlayStation controller. Once you’re in the menu, navigate to the “Gear and Eikons” screen to learn how to equip your Abilities. On the left side of the screen, you can equip different Weapons, Accessories, Belts, and Vambraces. On the right side, you’ll find the slots where you can switch out your desired Eikon Abilities. In combat, you’ll have one main Eikon Ability and two additional slots for secondary Abilities.

Unlocking New Eikon Abilities

To obtain new Eikon Abilities, you’ll need to earn Ability Points through combat. As you engage in battles, Clive will accumulate Ability Points that can be spent on acquiring new attacks. The “Abilities” screen is located on the right side of the “Gear and Eikons” screen. The circular icons represent the Abilities that cannot be equipped but instead become new skills. Above them, you’ll find your Phoenix Abilities.

If you think the current Ability tree appears limited, don’t worry. As you progress in the game, you’ll have the opportunity to unlock more skills and Eikon Abilities. At the beginning of the game, however, your options may be relatively few. These Eikon attacks are incredibly potent and cause significantly more damage than regular sword strikes. Additionally, you can enhance your Eikon Abilities further by utilizing additional Ability Points, making them even more formidable.

Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
