Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Sephiroth Confirmed as Playable Character

A new release date trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was showcased during last night’s PlayStation State of Play event. The trailer featured a glimpse of Cloud and Sephiroth battling together, confirming that Sephiroth will be fully playable in the game. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed this in an interview on the PlayStation Blog.

In the interview, Nomura stated, “If you played the original Final Fantasy 7, I’m sure you can guess which scene I’m talking about. You will be able to control Sephiroth in the same scene in this title as you did in the original.”

Familiar Faces Return in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting the reveal of the remaining party members, and the new trailer finally gives us a first look at Cait Sith in battle. Cait Sith will have two forms, both the black cat and giant moogle, with moves that include Kitty Wallop, Lucky Roll, and Let’s Ride. Vincent also makes an appearance in the trailer.

The new trailer also showcases various aspects of traversal in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Chocobos of different colors can be seen, with a black one able to climb vertical surfaces and a turquoise one capable of flying. The trailer also reveals Cloud riding a segway in Costa Del Sol. Additionally, the buggy makes a return as a means of swift travel across the world map.

Summoning the Power in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth introduces both new and returning summons. The trailer features Odin and Alexander, with director Naoki Hamaguchi stating that there will be many other summons in the game. The lineup of summons has been expanded from the previous game, including extended side content and the addition of a summon that did not appear in the original Final Fantasy 7.

Fun at the Gold Saucer

The Gold Saucer amusement park is showcased in all its glory in the new trailer. The minigames 3-D Battler, Chocobo Racing, and G-Bike make a return with enhanced versions. Players can experience these mini-games as part of the main story or in unique challenges found while exploring the world map. The Gold Saucer is a central location in the game and players will have the opportunity to return at any time.

Other Exciting Details

The trailer also reveals various other details about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The parade section in Junon, the inclusion of the Weapon enemy, hints of the Reunion, and more scenes featuring Zack are showcased. The order in which locations are visited in the game has been changed compared to the original. Wutai will not be included in Rebirth but will be featured in the next game as an expanded location. The game will extend up to “The Forgotten Capital,” where the greatest fate of Final Fantasy 7 awaits players.

PC players will be pleased to know that the game will be available on their platform at a later date, with a release date asterisked as “Not available on other formats at least until 29/05/2024.”

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available for pre-order, including a Collector’s Edition that comes with a Sephiroth statue priced at $349.99. The game has already shipped and sold over 7 million copies worldwide.
